Māyā - "Magic" or "Illusion"

Macramaya pronounced "māyā" is a combination of the words macrame and māyā- which points to the illusory nature of the material world and ultimately the true nature of being as timeless, formless and undefined by finite experience.

It invites the witness to ask the question "Who am I?"

and it plays with the juxtaposition of jewelry, which is to adorn the body, and the timeless essence of the soul, which is beyond the need for beauty and adornments.

It is a reminder that life is a dream and we might as well enjoy it.

About the Artist

My name is Jasmine and I have been weaving micro-macrame since I was pregnant with my first son 7 years ago. It was one of those things I always wanted to do and finally took the time to do it when I had a newborn baby. It was meant to be my 'mom hobby' and it has since become a great companion and good medicine for me throughout my years of motherhood.

I adore the process as much as the final result and it brings me so much joy to be able to make something so beautiful using simple materials.
